Visfatin is a novel adipokine produced by visceral adipose tissue. Visfatin is thought to be a natural insulin mimetic since is has been shown to bind to insulin receptors in liver, muscle and fat. Increased circulating plasma levels are likely to play critical roles in metabolic syndromes such as obesity and diabetes.
