Ferroptosis and Cuproptosis
Ferroptosis and cuproptosis are newly identified forms of cell death, distinct from apoptosis, necrosis, and autophagy. Ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death (RCD), is closely related to the pathophysiological processes of various diseases, including tumors, nervous system diseases, kidney injury, and more. Cuproptosis is a copper-dependent cell death and occurs by means of direct binding of copper to lipoylated components of the TCA cycle, which results in lipoylated protein aggregation and subsequent iron-sulfur cluster protein loss and leads to proteotoxic stress and ultimately cell death.
