HVEM (Herpes virus entry mediator) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family. This family of receptors plays a central role in the development of the immune system. HVEM has been shown to mediate HSV entry into activated T cells, in addition to modulating the activation of nuclear factor NF-kB (a transcriptional activator of multiple immuno modulatory and inflammatory genes) and transcription factor AP-1 (a regulator of cellular stress-response genes). Binding by HVEM of the ligand LIGHT induces receptor down regulation. Degradation or release of LIGHT by matrix metalloproteinases then contributes to the return to baseline levels for both LIGHT and HVEM. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: ELISA: 1:32,000 Western Blot: 0.03-0.1ug/ml, observed in human thymus and human tonsil lysates on ~30kD bands Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
