Activation of p50 regulates the expression of inflammatory genes crucially involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases. It governs the expression of adhesion molecules that play a pivotal role in leukocyte-endothelium interactions. p50 activation plays an essential role in the activation of mesangial cells and macrophages through the transcriptional induction of inflammatory mediators of glomerular inflammation and injury.
