DKK1 is a 68 kDa protein of the Dickkopf family. DKK1 is a secreted protein with two cysteine-rich domains which help in interaction with LRP5 and LRP6 thereby inhibiting the Wnt signaling pathway. DKK1 regulates embryonic development in vertebrates. DKK1 is over expressed in bone marrow and peripheral blood in patients with multiple myeloma. DKK1 is also associated with malignant myeloma. DKK1 is highly expressed in placenta.
