Lipopolysaccharidebinding protein (LBP),a member of the BPI/LBP/Plunc superfamily, BPI/LBP family, is detected in blood serum. LBP plays a role in the innate immune response. Alao,LBP can bind to the lipid A moiety of bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), a glycolipid present in the outer membrane of all Gramnegative bacteria, and act as an affinity enhancer for CD14, facilitating its association with LPS. Furthermore, LBP is able to promote the release of cytokines in response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide. - Proteine/Peptide
