NK2R is a G proteincoupled receptor with high affinity for the tachykinin Substance K (Neurokinin A). Upon activation, it triggers a phosphatidylinositolcalcium signaling pathway, leading to intracellular calcium release. The receptors binding affinity follows the order: Substance K > Neuromedin K > Substance P. NK2R also regulates energy metabolism and has shown significant potential in appetite control.
