Thrombopoietin (TPO) is a 332 amino acid glycoprotein made primarily in the liver and act as the major physiological regulator of platelet production. TPO binds the TPO receptor, activates JAK and STAT pathways, thus stimulating megakaryocyte growth and platelet production.
