MQAE is a novel chloride ion fluorescence probe excited by ultraviolet light. MQAE, binding bromine ion as ligand, can be used to detect the activity of chloride. MQAE exhibits a reduction of fluorescence intensity with the increase of intracellular Cl- concentration. MQAE has a pH-independent fluorescence intensity basically at a Cl- concentration <50 nM. MQAE has high water solubility and cell permeability. Ex/Em=350/460 nm
