Mag-Fluo-4 AM is a fluorescent chelator for Ca2+ with high affinity for calcium and can specifically recognize intracellular calcium ions with high sensitivity and low cytotoxicity. Addition of AM acetylmethyl ester allows better access to the cell, and after being sheared by the intracellular esterase, it stays in the cell and binds to calcium ions, thus generating strong fluorescence (lambdaex=475 nm, lambdaem=515 nm).
