BCIP, toluidine (5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indoxyl phosphate, p-toluidine salt) is a widely used chromogenic phosphatase substrate, which forms a dark blue (lambdamax 615 nm) precipitate on enzymatic hydrolysis.
