CPDS is a cell-impermeant thiol reagent that selectively inhibits the mitochondrial phosphate/hydroxyl carrier. In rat liver mitochondria, complete inhibition of phosphate transport requires co-administration with n-butylmalonate. This tool compound is used in vitro to study mitochondrial metabolism, ion transport, and bioenergetics.
