DL-Buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine (BSO) is a potent and selective inhibitor of gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase, the rate-limiting enzyme in glutathione biosynthesis. It is widely used in cancer research, both in vitro and in vivo, to deplete cellular glutathione and study oxidative stress mechanisms in solid tumor models.
