It is released in response to stretching of atrial walls, Endothelin, and stimulation of ?-adrenoreceptors. ANP increases renal sodium excretion resulting in decreased expanded extracellular fluid volume (ECF). ANP is degraded by neutral endopeptidase (NEP). ANP (4-28) is a fragment of full length rat ANP consisting of residues 126-150.
