GLP-1 secretion by these cells is dependent on the presence of nutrients in the lumen of the small intestine. GLP-1 promotes satiety and sustained GLP-1-receptor activation correlates with weight loss. The biologically active forms of GLP-1 are GLP-1 (7-37) and GLP-1 (7-36)NH2 (cat 471-39 and 471-28, respectively) which are produced as a result of selective cleavage of proglucagon. References1.
