It will also act as a substrate for Falcipains I-III but is the preferred substrate for Falcipain II. Falcipain II is a cysteine protease from Plasmodium falciparum which degrades hemoglobin and is a potential anti-malarial drug target.Activity is quantified by release of free fluorescent 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (AMC) which excites at 360-380 nm and emits at 440-460 nm.
