PAX5 is a transcription factor expressed in hematopoietic cells of B cell line, and partially also in the nervous system. It is important for B cell development and differentiation, but its expression must finally be be suppressed to enable plasma cell maturation. PAX5 thus affects the balance between B cell proliferation and antibody production. Its overexpression is associated with many lymphomas.
