ICRF-193 is a topoisomerase II poison.1 Toposiomerase poisons are a special subclass of topoisomerase inhibitors that stabilize topoisomerase-DNA strand passing intermediates and thus cause the topoisomerases to become a cytotoxic DNA-damaging agent.1 It readily induces DNA strand breaks in V79 and irs-2 Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts via a novel mechanism.2 Displays cardioprotective (against anthracycline toxicity)3 and anti-inflammatory effects via reduction of IL-1beta secretion by macrophages4. An important tool for studying the cellular response to DNA double-strand breaks.5
