Indolicidin is a 13 amino acid cationic cathelicidin family anti-microbial peptide (AMP) isolated from the cytoplasmic granules of bovine neutrophils. Indolicidin exhibits membrane permeabilization effects and antimicrobial activity against a wide spectrum of pathogens which include gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi, protozoa and the HIV-1 virus. Indolicidin is also an immune system modulator and an inhibitor of aminoglycoside antibiotic resistance enzymes.
