Isorutarin is a phenylpropanoid and spasmogen with prominent antioxidant activity, isolated from seeds of Seseli diffusum. Isorutarin induces contraction in isolated rabbit jejunum smooth muscle preparations. Isorutarin scavenges free radicals in an in vitro DPPH assay. Isorutarin exhibits cytotoxic activity against DNA repair-deficient (rad 52Y) and repair-proficient (RAD+) Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strains[1].
