Amezinium methylsulfate (Amezinium metilsulfate, Lu-1631) is an orally active indirect-acting sympathomimetic agent, with an IC50 of 5 µM against canine MAO A. Amezinium methylsulfate preferentially inhibits intraneuronal MAO A, blocks norepinephrine reuptake, stimulates alpha- and beta1-adrenergic receptors (alpha-/beta1 AR), and exerts weak alpha2-adrenergic receptor blocking activity at higher concentrations. Amezinium methylsulfate increases supine and sitting mean blood pressure and plasma norepinephrine levels, accelerates heart rate in some individuals, induces peripheral vasoconstriction, and regulates norepinephrine metabolism. Amezinium methylsulfate can be used for the research of hypotension and related circulatory regulatory disorders[1][2][3].
