Schidegera-saponin A1 is a spirostanol-type monosaccharide chain saponin with anti-yeast activity, isolated from the stems of Yucca schidigera. Schidegera-saponin A1 exhibits potent growth inhibitory activity against food spoilage yeasts and film-forming yeasts, with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 3.13 µg/mL against Saccharomyces cerevisiae IFO 203 and 6.25 µg/mL against Candida albicans TIMM 0134. Schidegera-saponin A1 is an FDA-approved food additive[1].
