The IGFBP-1 protein is an insulin-like growth factor binding protein that extends the half-life of IGF and modulates its growth-promoting effects in cell cultures, thereby inhibiting or stimulating these responses. Crucially, it alters the interaction between IGF and its cell surface receptors and promotes cell migration.
