The PHF8 protein is a histone lysine demethylase that plays a key role in cell cycle progression, rDNA transcription, and brain development. It selectively demethylates H3 Lys-9 (H3K9Me1 and H3K9Me2), H3 Lys-27 (H3K27Me2) and H4 Lys-20 (H4K20Me1).
