IGFBP-4 protein is an important IGFBP member that prolongs the half-life of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) and modulates its effects on cell cultures by altering the kinetics of interaction with cell surface receptors. It can inhibit or stimulate IGF-induced growth responses, showing specificity for IGF2 but not IGF1.
