UBE2K protein is an important component of the ubiquitin-proteasome system and functions as an E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme, which is critical for attaching ubiquitin to different substrates. In vitro, UBE2K catalyzes Lys-48 linked polyubiquitin chains, specifically in the presence or absence of the BRCA1-BARD1 E3 ligase complex.
