TREM-2 protein forms a signaling complex with TYROBP, activates cells upon ligand binding, and acts as a receptor for amyloid beta, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins. It promotes their uptake by microglia, triggering activation, proliferation, migration, apoptosis and cytokine expression.
