CYTL1 is a cytokine-like protein specifically expressed in bone marrow and cord blood mononuclear cells that bear the CD34 surface marker. CYTL1 exhibits specific expression in CD34+ hematopoietic cells, indicating its selective presence within this subset of cells involved in the regulation of hematopoiesis. CYTL1 regulates chondrogenesis and is required for the maintenance of cartilage homeostasis and, in addition, may act as a regulator of embryo implantation in early pregnancy.
