Transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-beta-1) proprotein contains latency-associated peptide (LAP) and active TGF-beta-1 chains, forming a homodimer with disulfide bonds. Upon activation, the proteolytic process releases mature TGF-beta-1, allowing it to play regulatory functions in cell growth, differentiation, and immune responses.
