Thioredoxin reductase (Oxidized Thioredoxin Reductase, TrxR) is an NADPH-dependent, FAD-containing dimeric selenoenzyme that belongs to the pyridine nucleotide-disulfide oxidoreductase family. Together with thioredoxin and NADPH, it forms the thioredoxin system. TrxR exhibits activity similar to glutathione reductase (GR), catalyzing the reduction of GSSG to GSH, and is one of the key enzymes in the glutathione redox cycle.
