PhoPS is a photoactivatable beta-lactamase inhibitor. Upon exposure to light, PhoPS releases the active beta-lactamase inhibitor Sulbactam. This compound is capable of inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls and the formation of biofilms in Escherichia coli, thereby exhibiting antibacterial activity.
