It can be rapidly separated using solid-phase extraction and quantified through isocratic reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with UV detection. As a fluorescent dye, 5-Phenyl-4E-pentenol is used to determine the kinetic properties of both heme and non-heme peroxidases and to evaluate the capability of oxidative compounds as substrates for peroxidase reduction.
