KARI 201 is a selective, brain-penetrant, competitive inhibitor of acid sphingomyelinase (ASM) with an IC50 of 338.3 nM. Additionally, KARI 201 acts as an agonist of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (ghrelin receptor). It is capable of improving the neuropathological characteristics of Alzheimers disease.
