Trehalose 6,6-dimycolate (Cord Factor) is a cell wall glycolipid from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It can simulate the inflammation and granuloma typical of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection. Additionally, Trehalose 6,6-dimycolate shields Mycobacterium tuberculosis against macrophage-mediated eradication, inhibits effective antigen presentation, and diminishes the development of protective T cell responses [1] [2].
