Sennoside is an orally active anthraquinone glycoside used as a stimulant laxative. It enhances gastrointestinal motility and secretion by activating 5-HT4 receptors in the myenteric plexus and inhibiting Na+/K+-ATPase activity. Sennoside is considered promising for research in chronic constipation.
