TopoisomeraseII alpha, Human (EC 5.99.1.3) is a nucleic enzyme that plays a critical role in DNA replication, transcription, chromosome segregation, and recombination. All cells contain two main types of topoisomerases: Type I topoisomerase, which can cleave a single strand of DNA, and Type II topoisomerase, which can cleave and pass double-stranded DNA.
