YEX (yolk extract) is an eco-friendly and sustainable alternative to FBS and SFM for mammalian cell culture activities. Cell culture performance of YEX is equivalent to FBS across >40 cell lines. Description: YEX is a media supplement that is dervied from egg yolks of chicken and duck breeds. It is formulated to be used in the same way that Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is used. Upon dilution into the desired media base (DMEM, RPMI, etc.), at the recommended concentratons, it will offer similar cell culture performance as Serum Free Media (SFM). YEX is not a blood product, hence it is not a serum. YEX is made via slaughter-free practices and is significantly more eco-friendly than FBS or SFM. Concentration: 10X Cell Culture of Mammailian Cell Lines Including: HEK293 CHO Hybridoma cell lines HeLa MDA-MB-231 and 468 PC-3 HepG2 Usage: Dilute YEX to 0.5-10% in chosen media. Do not exceed 10%. Most cell lines will grow well in <5% YEX. For example, a cell line currently grown in 10% FBS can grow in <10% YEX. In this situaton, 5% YEX in place of 10% should be tested Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70C.
