MTNR1A is a Melatonin Receptor located in the hypothalamus. It mediates melatonin control of circadian rhythms and reproductive functions affected by changes in day length. It is particularly important for seasonally breeding mammals. Ovine melatonin-related receptors are found in the hypothalamus and also in the pituitary, retina, and retinal pigment epithelium (Drew et al, 1998).
