Dihydroxyacetone (also known as DHA) is a simple carbohydrate that is primarily used as an ingredient in sunless tanning products. It is often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, by the fermentation of glycerin. 1,3-dihydroxyacetone is a ketotriose compound. Its addition to blood preservation solutions results in better maintenance of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate levels during storage. It is readily phosphorylated to dihydroxyacetone phosphate by triokinase in erythrocytes. In combination with naphthoquinones it acts as a sunscreening agent. Synonyms: Glycerone, 1,3-Dihydroxypropanone CAS No: 96-26-4 Molecular Formula: C3H6O3 Molecular Weight: 90.08 Appearance: White to off-white powder Purity: 98% 1H NMR Spectrum: Conforms to reference NMR: Conforms to reference Melting Point 96.5C Monomer Boiling Point: 213.7C Storage and Stability: May be stored at RT for short-term only. Long-term storage is recommended at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap.
