4-(4,6-Dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride, also known as DMTMM, is an alcohol and water-soluble coupling reagent used to synthesise amides and esters in a one-step procedure. DMTMM is selective, achieves good yields and can be easily removed under reduced pressure from the reaction mixture. DMTMM finds application in the activation of carboxyl polysaccharides to make glucans, in the functionalisation of poly(acrylic acid) and poly(methacrylic acid) with amines via amide bonds, to make glycoconjugates and for coupling propylamine and butylamine to hyaluronic acid.
