Olivetolic Acid is a precursor in the synthesis of primin and tetrahydrocannabinol. 2,4-Dihydroxy-6-pentylbenzoic acid is a cannabinoid derivative. It is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of geranyl pyrophosphate to olivetolic acid. 2,4-Dihydroxy-6-pentylbenzoic acid has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the activity of enzymes in the biosynthesis of olivetolic acid. This compound has been characterized as an inhibitor of olivetolic acid synthase and protein kinases. In vivo studies have shown that 2,4-dihydroxy-6-pentylbenzoic acid inhibits protein synthesis and induces apoptosis in some cancer cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and activating caspases.
