The SIRT6 is included in class IV of the sirtuin family, homologs to the yeast Sir2 protein. The functions of human sirtuins have not yet been determined, however, in yeast sirtuins are known to regulate epigenetic gene silencing. Also SIRT6, a chromatin-associated protein, appears to be involved in DNA repair.
