RBP1 is the carrier protein involved in the transport of retinol (vitamin A alcohol) from the liver storage site to peripheral tissue. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin necessary for growth, reproduction, differentiation of epithelial tissues, and vision. The gene harbors four exons encoding 24, 59, 33, and 16aa residues respectively. The second intervening sequence alone occupies 19 kb of the 21 kb of the gene. Retinol-binding protein-4 (RBP4) is the carrier protein involved in the transport of retinol from the liver storage site to peripheral tissue. On the other hand, cellular RBP (CRBP) is the intracellular carrier involved in intracellular movement of retinol. Colantuoni et al. (1985) isolated and sequenced a cDNA clone for the human CRBP gene. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: ELISA: 1:100-1:5000 Western Blot: 1:50-400 Immunohistochemistry (frozen): 1:50-500 Immunohistochemistry (paraffin): 1:10-100 Immunocytochemistry: 1:50-500 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
