Metalaxyl-M is an isomer of Metalaxyl, an agricultural fungicide. Phenylamide fungicide or use in food crops, shrubs and turf. Metalaxyl-M is a fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting the synthesis of ribosomes. It has been shown to have no effect on plants, which may be due to its low solubility in water and its high affinity for soil. Metalaxyl-M has been shown to inhibit the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) by phytophthora isolates in vitro, and this inhibition can lead to cell death. The metalaxyl-M molecule is not active against fungi that are resistant to it, such as Phytophthora infestans. This drug has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in fungi and bacteria, and it binds tightly with ribosomal RNA in vitro. In vivo tests have shown that metalaxyl-M is non-toxic in sublethal doses and causes only minor acute toxicities.
