Methyl alpha-bromophenylacetate is used in synthetic chemistry as an initiator for polymerization reactions (such as the polymerization of methyl methacrylate). Methyl alpha-bromophenylacetate is also used as a reagent to synthesize compounds that act as selective Serotonin (HCl: S274980) reuptake inhibitors (SSRI).
