Catalyzes the irreversible cleavage of the glycosidic bond in both 5-methylthioadenosine (MTA) and S-adenosylhomocysteine (SAH/AdoHcy) to adenine and the corresponding thioribose, 5-methylthioribose and S-ribosylhomocysteine, respectively. Also cleaves 5-deoxyadenosine, a toxic by-product of radical S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) enzymes, into 5-deoxyribose and adenine. Thus, is required for in vivo function of the radical SAM enzymes biotin synthase and lipoic acid synthase, that are inhibited by 5-deoxyadenosine accumulation. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Supplied as a lyophilized powder from 20mM Tris-HCl, 0.5M sodium chloride, pH 8.0, 6% trehalose. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O to a concentration of 0.1-1mg/ml.
