Vermistatin is a benzofuranone produced by a range of fungi, including Neosartorya, Penicillium and Phoma first reported by Fuksa and colleagues at the Slovak Technical University, Czech Republic in 1979. Vermistatin has phytotoxic and antifungal activity. Vermistatin is active against leukemia P 388 and EAC tumor cell lines. Interestingly, vermistatin has been isolated from fungal strains isolated from a uranium mine. Source: Talaromyces sp.
