Penisimplicissin is a benzofuranone, related to vermistatin, originally isolated from Penicillium simplicissimum by Japanese ressearchers and published in 2005. Penisimplicissin is also produced by the extremophilic fungus, Penicillium rubrum. Penisimplicissin is a selective inhibitor of leukemia cell lines acting via inhibition of caspase-1 and is active against the canine coronavirus. Source: Talaromyces sp.
