Hancockiamide C is a member of an unusual family of N-cinnamoylated piperazines from the Australian soil fungus Aspergillus hancockii. Hancockiamide C shows potent anti-germination activity in Arabidopsis thaliana seed assay (MIC 6.3ug/mL), but was inactive against the monocotyledon Eragrostis tef seed germination bioassay. The producing organism, A. hancockii, has the capacity to degrade cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, starch, chitin, cutin and fructan as nutrient sources.
