Geministatin C is a minor co-metabolite and degradation product of geministatin A, a recently described depside antibiotic isolated from the fungus Austroacremonium gemini. Geministatin C is formed by acid hydrolysis in methanol to cleave the depside ester of geministatin A. Geministatin C possesses weak cytotoxic activity, but was inactive against S. aureus, MRSA and S. cerevesiae.
